How to measure a good programmer if you’re not a programmer?
Are you looking to hire a programmer yet you have not been exposed to this industry before? It is hard for you to determine the quality of programmers without having knowledge in this industry. Here are some tricks to make your job easier.
Don’t rely on resume only
People probably not so honest on their resume, therefore resume is not ideal as a hiring tool. Beside of resume, employers should notice where the programmer worked and how they performed previously even this can be a time-consuming process.
Giving a test during interview
It is difficult to know the programmer’s performance with only looking at their skill that stated on resume especially when you’re not familiar in this industry. Held a test during an interview able to test the capability of the candidate. The test is usually comprised of 10 short questions, ideally not taking longer than 20 minutes to complete. With the test, you know who would be a good fit for the job.
Set a paid trial period
If you feel seem like you’ve found a programmer that fit the job but you still not sure whether he/she able to fit into the company culture or reach your expectations or not, set a short trial period to observe his/her performance before turn into full-time employees. This period usually last for 3 months.
